Isolation and identification of Bifidobacterium species from feces of captive chimpanzees

چکیده
Recently, gut-dwelling bifidobacteria from chimpanzees, which are phylogenetically close to humans and have feeding habits similar to humans, have been frequently investigated. Given this, we speculated that like humans, chimpanzees would have a unique diversity of bifidobacteria. We herein describe a taxonomically novel member of bifidobacteria isolated from fecal samples of captive chimpanzees. Bifidobacteria were detected in all fecal samples by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. A Bifidobacterium pseudolongum-like species, which could not be detected using B. pseudolongum-specific primers targeting the groEL gene sequence, was dominant in the feces of five chimpanzees. Seven bifidobacterial strains were isolated from this group of five chimpanzees, and all isolates were identified as B. pseudolongum. B. pseudolongum has previously often been isolated from non-primate animals as well as humans; however, here we demonstrate its presence in a nonhuman primate species.

Identification of Bifidobacterium Strains Isolated from Fecal Samples of Some Iranian Subjects Using 16SrRNA Gene Sequence Analysis and PCR-based Gene Specific Primers
For the first time in Iran 40 strains of Bifidobacterium were isolated from feces of Iranian subjects. By using phenotypic tests, 18 isolates were identified as Bifidobacterium longum, 10 as Bifidobacterium bifidum and one as Bifidobacterium catenolatum. In order to validate these results and also to identify other isolates that had not been identified by phenotypic tests, two methods of PCR wi...
متن کاملA human reproductive approach to the study of infertility in chimpanzees: An experience at Leon’s Zoological Park, Mexico
Great apes are mammals close to humans in their genetic, behavioral, social and evolutionary characteristics and new genomic information is revolutionizing our understanding of evolution in primates. However, all these species are endangered. While there are many global programs to protect these species, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) projects that in a near future th...

Background: Intestinal colonization of the newborn is essential for establishment, maturation and maintenance of the gut mucosal barrier. The greatest difference between the microbiota of breast milk and Infant formula infants feeding is the numbers and species composition of Bifidobacteria. In this study, we tried to identify the native Bifidobacterium isolates obtained from the human’s breast...
متن کاملIsolation and Identification of Tannin-degrading Bacteria from Native Sheep and Goat Feces in Kohgiloye and Boyer-Ahmad Province
Oak trees cover a wide range of forests in Iran and most of them are located in Kohgiloye and Boyer-Ahmad province (K.B). The high tannin is one of the anti-nutritional characteristics of acorn for domestic animal. Wide range of gut microorganisms could tolerate tannin and reduce it by producing tannase enzyme. This study was carried out to isolate and identify the tannin resistance bacteria (t...
